Picture the scene. The sculptor, Giles Rayner, arrives at our offices to show us his big idea: a model of an exquisitely curved shape. And it's under two-feet tall...

Giles was looking for a design engineering company that understood the geometry behind his idea. His search took him to Generative Parametrics. And he discovered we could rapidly and faultlessly deliver the right design by modelling everything automatically according to a fundamental geometric DNA.

In our first meeting, he revealed a small model (‘maquette’) for the Arches of Oman. It was elegant and intriguing. But deceptively simple. Everyone in the room knew the challenge. How could we turn this tiny work-in-progress piece into a geometrically accurate 12-metre high sculpture, complete with water jets and lighting?

We relished the prospect. Here was an opportunity to put our experience in automotive, telecoms and specialist industrial design to work on an inspiring art form. The piece couldn’t be more different to the usual components and products we produce. But the principles were the same. We couldn’t wait to get started!
