The brief

Simplifying recycling and maintaining performance

Traditional lotion pumps use multiple materials, which makes recycling difficult or impossible. Our client wanted to be first to market with a fully recyclable, single-material pump that simplified recycling, performed well and appealed to customers.

The goal was to set new standards in sustainable packaging with a product that worked across multiple markets and brands.

The approach

Replacing metal with recyclable plastic

The biggest challenge was replacing the metal spring used in traditional pumps with a mechanism made entirely from one recyclable material.

We identified a single recyclable polymer that could make the pump strong, durable and functional. We then developed the pump as a modular design, so the client could adapt it for different brands with a variety of textures, actuator types, shapes and colours.

The result

Easier to recycle, ready for market

The finished pump made recycling simpler without compromising function or shelf appeal.

It gave the client a distinctive sustainable packaging product and strengthened its position in a growing market for lower-waste consumer products.
